Daily Reflection with Fr. Tomas Del Valle-Reyes

Dear Friends: Praying is not easy. Our daily routine calls for our full attention. And the world around us puts little value on prayer; our lives are full of material things but at the same time are getting emptier in God’s value.

For this reason, I will post a daily reflection and as you visit this site may the Holy Spirit within you come to your aid and guide you gently to the God who loves you

Don't give up.......

One day I decided to quit...
I quit my job, my relationship, my spirituality. .. I wanted to quit my life.
I went to the woods to have one last talk with God.
"God", I asked, "Can you give me one good
reason not to quit?"
His answer surprised me...
"Look around", He said. "Do you see the fern and the bamboo?"
"Yes", I replied.
"When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds,
I took very good care of them.
I gave them light.
I gave them water.
The fern quickly grew from the earth.
Its brilliant green covered the floor.
Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.
In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful.
And again, nothing came from the bamboo seed.
But I did not quit on the bamboo. He said.
"In year three there was still nothing from the bamboo seed.
But I would not quit.
In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed.
I would not quit." He said.
"Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth.
Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant. ..
But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall.
It had spent the five years growing roots.
Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive.
I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle."
He asked me. "Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots".
"I would not quit on the bamboo.
I will never quit on you."
"Don't compare yourself to others."
He said.
"The bamboo had a different Purpose than the fern.
Yet they both make the forest beautiful."
"Your time will come", God said to me.
"You will rise high"
"How high should I rise?"
I asked.
"How high will the bamboo rise?" He asked in return.
"As high as it can?" I questioned.
"Yes." He said, "Give me glory by rising as high as you can."
I left the forest and brought back this story.
I hope these words can help you see that God will never give up on you.
Never, Never, Never Give up.
For the Christian Prayer is not an option but an opportunity.
Don't tell the Lord how big the problem is,
tell the problem how Great the Lord is!
Heavens door opened this morning, God asked me... My CHILD....
what can I do for you?" and I said "Protect and bless the one reading this message.
God smiled and answered ... "request granted ............
This message is now in your hands.
What will YOU do with it?
send this to your friends and family so they too will have their
lives in God's hands
You never know when GOD is going to bless you!! Good things happen when you least expect them to !!!!!!!!

Christmas Eve Prayer

"Blessed Shining Night of Lights
Pointing out the newborn babe
Who came to show our world that love
Is by far the truest way.
To find the path to heaven's home
To make our searching not in vain
To show the way that fills our soul
With heavenly light day by day.
Blessed Shining Light of Lights
We find you in our heart each day
And by our caring, sharing acts
We go forth, not led astray.
Blessed Babe of Golden Light
Never forgotten, here to stay
Living on eternallyHand and hand with us each day.
Living on eternally
Living in joy with us today!"

Just close your eyes and open your heart,
And feel your worries and cares depart.
Just yield yourself to the Father above,
And let Him hold you secure in His love.
For life on earth grows more involved,
With endless problems that can't be solved.
But God only ask us to do our best,
Then He will take over and finish the rest.
So when you are tired, discouraged and blue,
There is always one door that is open to you.
And that is the door to The House of Prayer,
And you'll find God waiting to meet you there.
And The House of Prayer is no further away,
Than the quiet spot where you kneel and pray.
For the heart is a temple when God is there,
As we place ourselves in His loving care.
And He hears every prayer and answers each one,
When we Pray in His name - Thy will be done.
The burdens that seemed too heavy to bear,
Are lifted away on the wings of a prayer.

HEBREWS 12:5 Through 11

Some people have a hard time even thinking
of God  as "Father" because of the horrible
abuse they suffered
from their earthly fathers' hands.
But God is a Father who never abuses
His children, although He does punish them.
He chastens those whom He loves.
It is wise for the child of God to fear the corrective wrath of the Father.
I loved my earthly father deeply.
In fact, I idolized him. I was secure in his love as
he was constant in showing affection for me.
I feared him in the sense that I didn't want to disappoint him
or let him down. I had the "fear" of respect for him.
But I also feared his wrath and discipline.
Even though, in general, I didn't want to disappoint him
or grieve him, nevertheless I often disobeyed him.
That meant facing his discipline.
When my father disciplined me he always announced
it to me by saying, "Son, we have to have a session."
That meant I had to follow him into his office,
close the door behind me, and sit in a chair in front of him.
He wouldn't raise his voice.
He would calmly tell me what I did wrong and why it was wrong.
He instructed me in such a way that I was devastated.
He always ended the session with a warm embrace.
But talk about the conviction of sin...whew!
Are you able to accept correction from your Heavenly Father?
Do you respond to it properly? Pray about this.
And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that
addresses you as sons: "My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the
Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons.
For what son is not disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!
Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in his holiness.
No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.
Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and
peace for those who have been trained by it.

" Matthew 28:20

"...I am with YOU always…AM WITH YOU ALWAYS..." Matthew 28:20
Little one,
When you wakened this morning, I thought perhaps
you'd talk to Me and involve Me in your day,
but you were preoccupied finding something to wear for work.
When you'd time to spare, I thought we'd have a few moments together, but you got on the phone and started talking to somebody else.
I noticed that before you ate lunch at work, you looked around
and seemed embarrassed to talk to Me.
Maybe that's why you didn't bow your head and give thanks,
even though some of your friends did.
Later at home, I waited while you watched television, ate
dinner, and did paperwork.
At bedtime I guess you were just too tired, because you dropped into bed and fell fast asleep.
Do you know I'm always here for you?
I love you so much that I wait every day for a prayer,
a thought, or just a chance to speak with you.
The problem as I see it is - it's hard to have a one-sided conversation. Signed, Your Friend, Jesus'. ..." Matthew 28:20
When did you last talk with the Lord? Or take time to listen to Him? There's never a time when He's not speaking; no room so dark, no lounge so crowded, or no office so busy that He's not there.
Never mistake your insensitivity for His absence. Among life's fleeting promises of pleasure is this timeless assurance, '...I am with you always...' (Matt 28:20 NIV). Make time for Him today!

The Hammer

I was in the crowd the day that Jesus died
And as He hung upon that cross, His mother cried
I saw the crown of thorns He wore
The stripes on His back
The water and the blood ran out
And then the sky turned black
My mind was filled with anger
My heart filled with shame
The man brought only healing
Well who could bring Him pain
Why does it seem the strong
They always victimize the weak
And suddenly I found myself
Standing to my feet
And I cried

Who nailed Him there?
This Child of peace and mercy
Who nailed Him there?
Come and face me like a man
Who nailed Him there?
And the crowd began to mock me
I cried Oh my God I just don't understand
Then I turned and saw the hammer
In my hand.
I am just a Roman soldier
An ordinary man
I love my wife and children
I do the best I can
But how could I have killed Him
There must be someone else
I got to find an answer
I can't blame myself

I nailed Him there
This Child of peace and mercy
I nailed Him there
I am the guilty man
I nailed Him there
With my sins and my transgressions
I cried Oh my God, now I understand
When I turned and saw the hammer
In my hands

I did not know His love before,
The way I know it now.
I could not see my need for Him,
My pride would not allow.

I had it all, without a care,
The "self-sufficient" lie.
My path was smooth, my sea was still,
Not a cloud was in my sky.
I thought I knew His love for me,
I thought I'd seen His grace,
I thought I did not need to grow,
I thought I'd found my place.
But then the way grew rough and dark,
The storm clouds quickly rolled;
The waves began to rock my ship,
I found I had no hold.
The ship that I had built myself
Was made of foolish pride.
It fell apart and left me bare,
With nowhere else to hide
I had no strength or faith to face
The trials that lay ahead,
And so I simply spoke His name
And bowed my weary head.
His loving arms enveloped me,
And then He helped me stand.
He said, "You still must face this storm,
But I will hold your hand."
So through the dark and lonely night
He guided me through pain.
I could not see the light of day
Or when I'd smile again.
Yet through the pain and endless tears,
My faith began to grow.
I could not see it at the time,
But my light began to glow.
I saw God's love in a brand new light,
His grace and mercy, too.
For only when all self was gone
Could Jesus' love shine through.
It was not easy in the storm,
I sometimes wondered why.
At times I thought, "I can't go on."
I'd hurt, and doubt, and cry.
But God never left my side
He guided me each day.
Through pain and strife, through fire and flood,
He helped me all the way.

And now I see as never before
How great His love can be
How in my weakness He is strong,
How God cares for me!
He worked it all out for my good,
Although the way was rough.
He only sent what I could bear,
And then He said, "Enough!"
He raised His hand and said, "Be still!"
He made the storm clouds cease.
He opened up the gates of joy
And flooded me with peace.

I saw His face now clearer still,
I felt His presence strong,
I found anew His faithfulness,
He never did me wrong.
And now I know more storms will come,
But only for my good,
For pain and tears have helped me grow
As nothing ever could.
I still have so much more to learn
As God works in me;
If in the storm I'll love Him more,
That's where I want to be!

I Thank You, God, For Loving Me So

I thank You, God, for loving me so,
And I thank You for letting me know.
Thank You for sending Your Son,
To show You love us every one.
You didn't create us and walk away,
But You're right here with us every day.
Your Holy Spirit makes it clear,
That now and always You are near.
You supply our needs abundantly,
Air and sunshine fresh and free.
Water to drink and food to eat,
Good food like vegetables, fruits and meat.
Blessings more than I could earn,
New truths every day that I can learn.
When I am slow You don't clobber me,
But You're patient and kind as only You can be.
You don't ask for more than I can do,
You only ask that I trust You.
And that I always for You live,
And obey the instructions that You give.
My sins You've forgiven and forgotten,
Even though they are so vile and rotten.
My pride and ego want me to think I'm great,
But compared to You I just don't rate.
You are so great and good and all,
When I think of You I feel so small.
I'm thankful that You see what I can be,
If I allow You to live in me.
Your love and strength to me You give,
And You allow me for You to live.
I thank You, God, for loving me so,
And I thank You for letting me know.

I asked God to take away my habit.

God said, No.

It is not for me to take away,
but for you to give it up.

I asked God to make my handicapped child whole.
God said, No.
His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary.

I asked God to grant me patience.

God said, No. Patience is a byproduct of tribulations;
it isn't granted, it is learned.

I asked God to give me happiness.

God said, No.
I give you blessings;
Happiness is up to you.
I asked God to spare me pain.

God said, No.
Suffering draws you apart from
worldly cares
and brings you closer to me.

I asked God to make my spirit grow.
God said, No.
You must grow on your own,
but I will prune you to make you fruitful.

I asked God for all things
that I might enjoy life.

God said, No.
I will give you life,
so that you may enjoy all things.
I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as He loves me.
God said...
Ahhhh, finally you have the idea.

In this time...

Dear God,
In this time of great tragedy, we give thanks for the courage within our leaders to recognize the difference between the anger in their minds, the wisdom of their hearts and the courage to act wisely in their choices.
May each leader have the strength to act for the good of all people, in all nations and our collective future as a global family.
Through this prayer we claim that peace, democracy and human life are stronger and more enduring than the buildings that symbolize them. We breathe life into their existence from the dust of hate that is transformed by our soil.
For these blessings in our lives, we give thanks,

Visit Holy Land with Father Tomas. Pictures by Fr. Tomas

A man's daughter had asked the local Priest  to come and pray with her father.
When the Priest arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows.
An empty chair sat beside his bed.
The Priest assumed that the old fellow had been informed
of his visit.
"I guess you were expecting me”, said the Priest.
'No, who are you?" said the father.
The Priest told him his name and then remarked, "I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew I was going to show up."
"Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?"
Puzzled, the Priest shut the door.
"I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man.
"But all of my life I have! Never known how to pray.
At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head." I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued,
Until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me: "Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus….Here is what I suggest: "Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair.
It's not spooky because he promised, 'I will be with you always'.
"Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now." "So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I'm careful though.
If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm."
The Priest was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey.
Then he prayed with him, anointed him with Holy oil, and returned to the church.
Two nights later the daughter called to tell the Priest that her daddy had died that afternoon.
Did he die in peace?" he asked.
Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek!
When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him.
But there was something strange about his death.
Apparently, just before my Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed.
What do you make of that?"
The Priest wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that."
Prayer is Powerful
I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower, He gave me a garden.
I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU...
If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it.
Happy moments, praise God.
Difficult moments, seek God.
Quiet moments, worship God.
Painful moments, trust God.
Every moment, thank God.
Father Tomas Del Valle-Reyes

What is Prayer?

Prayer is God’s activity in our lives.
Prayer is simple communication with our Father, the same way we talk to our best friend.
Prayer is carefully cultivated understanding, as well as spontaneous and “inexpressible groaning” (Romans 8:26).
Give thanks
Gratitude works like a vaccine: it keeps you from getting infected with a spirit of ‘grumpiness’.
It’s the antitoxin that counteracts the poisonous effects of ingratitude.
Have you noticed that we live in a thankless society?
Paul said, '... in the last days... people will be... ungrateful... l' (2 Timothy 3:1).
This generation lacks godly principles; they've learned to pray neither at home nor in school. Because they’ve witnessed the fall of high-profile church leaders, they're concluded that ‘religion’ doesn't work.
But thanklessness is a problem among Christians too.
We ask God for things, then when we get them, we complain about having to take care of them! Ever do that?
If you want to know God’s will, listen: '... in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God...for you' (1 Thessalonians 5:18 ).
We’re supposed to demonstrate thankfulness!
Paul says, '... with thanksgiving let your requests be made known... ' (Philippians 4:6).
Because thanksgiving moves them through God’s approval process.
It also demonstrates that you’re mature enough to handle whatever He sends.
After all, why would He send more, if you don’t appreciate what you already have?
Sometimes thanksgiving is a sacrifice.
It’s easy to give thanks when you feel good. It’s when you don’t that it becomes a sacrifice.
David said, 'I will offer... the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and... call on the... Lord' (Psalm 116:17 ).
Notice: he called on God only after he’d offered the sacrifice of thanksgiving.
Your flesh will always find reasons to be dissatisfied.
Your spirit will always search for reasons to be thankful. So today - be thankful!

The Apostles creed

"Our Father" - God wants us to approach Him as "Daddy" (Aramaic: Abba).
He wants to take care of us and protect us. God desires intimacy.
Remember, He has infinite love and grace.
God wants us to be secure in His family as adopted children and heirs.

"Who Art in Heaven" -- Look up to God. Obey Him and Love Him and Trust Him.
He is all-powerful and can deal with all our problems, even the big ones. But He loves us so much that He doesn't stay up there.

"Hallowed be Thy Name" -- Holy, holy, holy. Approach God with awe and wonder. Save the word "awesome" for God. Live a life that honors Him.

"Thy Kingdom Come" - "Take this job and love it!"  Working on behalf of God's kingdom is the ultimate joy.  Bloom where you're planted. Do everything as unto the Lord. Find your gifts and use them.
Be open to God's leading each day.

"Thy Will Be Done" - God is the potter; we are the clay. God keeps us spinning on His potter's wheel, shaping and reshaping us as He bathes our lives in tears to make us more Christ-like so He can use us for His will. Surrender daily. Keep your clay moist through daily prayer.

"On Earth as it is in Heaven" -- Thy will be done - not my will be done!

"Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" - Trust! God will provide for our needs. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He cares for me.

"Forgive Us Our Debts as We Forgive Our Debtors" -- Forgiveness = Surrender. Don't carry your own backpack - surrender it to Him.
Revealing the feeling is the beginning of healing.
Act as if you have forgiven and the feeling will follow.
In our weakness, God sends His strength and peace..
"Lead Us Not Into Temptation" - Watch for unrecognized temptation.
Pray, so you won't fall. We are tempted every day.
It deepens our walk and strengthens our faith - but be careful of spiritual blindness. Open my eyes, Lord, to my blind spots - use honest friends and family
"Deliver Us From Evil" -- The evil One, satan.
We are saved from death to life.
Jesus is more powerful than Satan - God is greater!

"For Thine Is the Kingdom (obedience), and the Power (confidence) and the Glory (joy), Forever" -- This is our Father's world.
Everything we have is His. He is the ruler!

Thy Promise

Our Lord! not for nathing
You have created us all this!
Glory to Thee! Give us
Salvation from the Penalty
Of the Fire.
Our Lord! any whom Thou
Dost admit to the Fire,
Truly Thou coverest with shame,
And never will wrongdoers
Find any helpers!
Our Lord! we have heard
The call of one calling
Us to Faith, 'Believe you
In the Lord,' and we

Have believed. Our Lord!
Forgive us our sins,
Blot out from us
Our iniquities, and take
To Thyself our souls
In the company of the righteous.
Our Lord! Grant us
What Thou didst promise
Unto us through Thy Messengers,
And save us from shame
On the Day of Judgment;
For Thou never breakest
Thy promise.

Heavenly Father, Almighty God.

I humble myself before your Presence,
I ask you to forgive me my sins and the sins of brothers and sisters.

Almighty Father, we have offended you, our ancestors have offended you and we all continue to offend you daily.
Lord, have Mercy on us.

Almighty God, I ask forgiveness for my sins and the sins of my brothers and sisters.
Forgive us Lord for breaking your commandments; forgive us Lord for not listening to your Word.
Lord my God, with shame I present to you the state of this poor humanity as I implore your Mercy and compassion.

Lord I am so sorry to confess my sins and of my brothers and sisters, we are guilty Lord, we have insulted you with our pride, and we have defied you with our sins.

Lord I disapprove of to see how my own brothers and sisters are immersed in atheism, but have so many false gods.

Lord I see how children have turned against parents because they try to teach them what is right, I see rebellion in children, young people and grown ups.

Crime is on the increase in every city throughout the world, all laws are

despised and your laws are totally ignored.
There is corruption even inside governments and most people will do evil at the cost of others.
Please Lord open up our ears to hear your voice, open our eyes to see the truth and our hearts to love one another.
